How we Work
We offer a range of bespoke services to children and adults, including Constraint Induced Movement Therapy, upper limb splinting, fine motor development, handwriting programmes, stroke rehabilitation and vocational rehabilitation. Sessions can be held in the well-equipped studio in Truro, in your own home, in the community or, if preferred, remotely. For pre-school aged children, therapy will usually be delivered at the clinic based in Truro, Cornwall. Assessment, treatment and follow-up appointments in the community are also offered. For children who are attending an education setting, there is the option of the therapist joining the child at pre-school/school and integrating the treatment into the school day.
Following an initial assessment, the therapist will work with you to set individualised goals and devise a bespoke therapeutic package.
Our therapists complete regular accredited training courses in addition to their current specialist qualifications to ensure that we are all able to provide an outstanding service for you and/or your children.
Camila, the face and name behind South West Therapy, is an independent specialist Occupational Therapist in Cornwall. She qualified in 2012, specialising in paediatrics with a special interest in upper extremity rehabilitation, upper limb splinting and Constraint Induced Movement Therapy.
Camila has many years of experience working with children with a range of difficulties including neurological, developmental and genetic conditions as well as acquired injuries and sensory processing difficulties, supporting them in reaching their potential and independence at home, school and in the community.
She started as an independent therapist in London, for a child with complex physical needs. Additionally, she was employed as the child’s one to one in their Special School. Here she became qualified in Rebound Therapy and worked closely with a well-renowned Bobath Physiotherapist. A year later she joined a children’s community team with the NHS as a specialist paediatric Occupational Therapist. Her role within this service involved assessment/provision of specialist equipment, assessing functional and sensory needs and working together with parents, education settings and carers to enable children to become as independent as possible. Camila soon became the lead clinician in delivering a children’s hand clinic in Cornwall and immersed herself in various service development projects including co-initiating and running a pilot for Constraint Induced Movement Therapy, Paediatric Upper Limb Kinesiology Taping and developing an Upper Limb and Hemiplegia Clinic pathway. Since 2015 she has delivered monthly training workshops to caregivers and schools on sensory processing difficulties affecting functional performance. Camila also has experience of working in medical geriatrics and orthopaedics, hand therapy, stroke rehabilitation and community mental health.
Camila is professional, dedicated and extremely passionate in her work, which led her to set up South West Therapy (formally known as ULOT South West).
